A Note from the Chairman

As you are all aware, due to the precautions being implemented across the globe to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, many of our Regional Directors have prudently decided to postpone their events scheduled in March and April so please check our website, check with the Regional Directors themselves or the Eventbrite link you were sent to get the latest notification on the event in your region.

The Florida Region will still be conducting their online webinar "International Arbitration Discussion: Infrastructure Disputes" on April 23, 2020 so  please register here!

The good news is that already in 2020 we have hosted events in Atlanta, New York City and  one event Houston. Looking forward, we have a number of  events planned  across Canada and the US, as well as the international SCL Conference to be held in Auckland, New Zealand in November 2020 (registrations  now open).

In addition, please "save the date" for the SCL NA conference to be held sometime in the summer of 2021. We are in the process of researching locations and dates. Thank you to all that participated in the survey to help us narrow down date and locations.

Please also welcome our newest regional director, Jonathan Burwood, as co-Regional Director with Antonios Vytiniotis of our New England Section. Jonathan Burwood is a founding partner of the New England office of Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald.  Since 1999, Jonathan has represented contractors, sureties and other construction professionals, providing general counsel, preparing contracts, and managing claims through negotiation, arbitration, litigation and appeals.  He routinely handles matters involving all types of public and private construction, including federal contracting.  Jonathan prosecutes and defends complex and high-stakes contract claims, navigates performance, payment and schedule disputes, and secures recovery from responsible third-parties.

Congratulations to  our SCL NA Board Member Sharon Vogel on her induction into the American College of Construction Lawyers, making her the sixth Canadian and first Canadian woman to be inducted into the fellowship!

We are now up to 187 members as of March 15, 2020 so thank you all for connecting with us on LinkedIn and Twitter and speaking with your colleagues and contacts about our upcoming events.

All of us from the SCL NA Board wish you and your families all the best as we weather this difficult time together and pray that you stay safe and healthy. This too shall pass!

Warmest Regards,
Anamaria Popescu, PhD, PE, PSP, PMP
